Why is it important to trim the wick before lighting a candle?

Trimming your candle wick to 1/4" before each use helps the candle burn safely and evenly. Failing to trim the wick may result in debris falling into the wax, which can affect performance. If any debris is present, be sure to remove it before relighting the candle.
